Steps to Success

There are several determinants of success but it all starts with one thing. Every accomplishment starts with a decision to try. It requires activation and action. But success starts somewhere and it begins with a personal choice.

Earlier today I came upon the following phrase.  “Success isn’t something that just happens.  Success is learned, success is practiced and success is shared.”  Very true indeed.  We live in a time when the average attention span of a human being is just 8 seconds!!  You read that correctly, just 8 seconds!!  The attention span of a goldfish is 9 seconds.  Oops, just how did that happen?  And yet, I believe it to be true.

We live in an age where instant gratification rules, where we do something because it feels right without fully examining if it is right.  We prioritize convenience over permanence.  Disposable becomes more important than real lasting value.  Technology provides huge advantages in generating information but how much do we actually absorb.  Almost everyone that I know wants to be successful but most want the fast and easy to way.  Many stop wanting because they believe the struggle is too difficult.  I hear people say things like, “If it was meant to be, then it would have already happened”,  “It’s not worth the risk, I’ve been burned before”, or “I just don’t care anymore.”  We stop dreaming about all the things that are possible.  We stop thinking that we are capable and begin to believe lies that we are not worthy.  The easy route looks safe.  Security assumes a higher priority in our thinking and we live life “safely”, so as to not get hurt.

But let me tell you.  You can achieve, if you truly want. And I believe that you must.

There are several determinants of success but it all starts with one thing. Every accomplishment starts with a decision to try.  It requires activation and action. But success starts somewhere and it begins with a personal choice.

The definition of success probably varies from person to person. Personally, I believe that success is defined as pursuing and living out the purposes that God has ordained for your life.  Maybe you agree, perhaps not.  But, you must make the choice to move in a certain direction and then not waver from that decision.  Once you have decided to DO something,  you have to do it.  If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change.  Let me repeat that.  If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at will change. Pretty simple really. Not easy, but simple.

People will doubt you.  Friends, family, others, or perhaps events in life, will discourage.  Along the way, however, others will come into the picture and support your dream, vision and goals.  You will find that your activation establishes momentum, momentum builds energy, and energy becomes power.  The journey will be awesome, if you choose.  But why must you?  Because it’s better to be an optimist who gets disappointed than a pessimist who has no hope.  The good news though, is that you won’t be disappointed.
